“Bad started off with the lyrics, ‘You became the reason I breathe, only to suffocate me.’ When I look back, it was the people I cared about most deeply that ended up hurting me most. Makes me wonder, though. Is it because they gave me greater scars? Or did I inflict the pain upon myself by naively expecting that they, of all people, wouldn’t ever be bad to me? These are the thoughts that birthed the song.”

I think you are my echo. When I first met you, I thought that it was as if all of the things I had shouted out into the world before knowing you had come back to me in your form. … All the hopes and wishes, dreams and happiness’s that you have carried thus far, I’ll give to you. I love you. - Tablo

Dear TV, desensitize me. Gimme more genocide please.
The world is your aphrodisiac, so you stay turned on
every minute, every second I breathe.
You weaponize greed, kill me with incessant “I needs”.
Got me checkin’ out those, and checkin’ out these.
Mainstream me, disinfectin’ my breed.
I’m lookin’ for nirvana but you Geffenize me.
Point me to the skies till heaven’s eye bleeds.
Anoint me with your lies then divinize me.
If heaven is a show, well, televise me.
But I won’t lie my way in, no fakin’ IDs.
I’ll die standin’. Try breakin my knees.
I’ll do a handstand like I’m breakin’. Now freeze.
Don’t act like you know me ‘cause you recognize me.
You sell my record, not me.

Just as I was able to regain my smile as a result of making music again, i’d like people to smile when they hear my music. I’d like people to be happy.

Tablo about “The Tide”:
Contrary to the mood of the song, “The Tide” sprang from a very random, silly thought. I was eating at a restaurant, and I saw an unfinished plate of grilled fish on the table next to me. Left over and left behind. I don’t know why, but I thought to myself, “That fish is just like me.” I wrote the lyrics that day. “The world is a fishbowl.” This is something that students or those just coming of age, I’m sure, relate to.
